Educational Books and Chapters
Rodger has authored several educational books and book chapters. Clients have access to these and to Rodger’s ongoing writing.
He is the co-author of the books New Zealand Guide to Financial Planning and author of The Essential Guide to Financial Planning in New Zealand. In an increasingly complex and fast-moving world individuals are bombarded with financial information. The Essential Guide sorts the wheat from the chaff, is quick and easy to use, is clear and concise and offers authoritative valuable guidance. It provides a clear explanation of personal investment and financial planning, answers to common questions, a framework for personal planning and a system that can be drawn from selectively or worked through point by point.
In his chapter in the book Carbon Neutral 2020 Rodger sets out a vision and strategies for a future in which responsible investing becomes the norm in New Zealand. He explains how responsible investors can do well and how to invest responsibly. The chapter then profiles four types of investors and provides case studies for environmental and social responsibility matters. It then explores The Responsibility Scorecard developed by Rodger and his four ‘Ps’ of responsible business – Purpose, Principles, Practices and Performance Measurement, illustrating these with local business examples. International investment is covered with discussion of themes such as clean energy and examples of solar energy and wind power.
Rodger’s most recent book chapter is published in the book Authentic Leadership (Spiller, C. & Ladkin, D., 2013). Here he explains how a key consideration for responsible investors is the quality of the leadership of the companies in which they are investing. He explains how responsible investors take a wider, longer and deeper view. Using examples from telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, alternative energy and the world's third-largest consumer goods company consumer goods business, he shows how investors and businesses that take a wider and longer perspective can do well and do good.
